About Libby Drew
Drawing has always been important to Libby, who has sketched for as long as she can remember. Her childhood curiosity about natural things and how they work, in particular flowers and animals, led her to focus on these in her art in early years and these are themes that she has revisited throughout her career.
Elected in 2006 as an Associate of the Society of Graphic Fine Art, Libby enjoys detailed pen and ink studies with watercolour, for which London Exhibitions have been a successful outlet. Libby also continues her floral art in various different forms, including collage, and this has led her recently to become an Associate of the Society of Floral Painters, full membership of which she is hoping to achieve shortly.
Studying Botany and Zoology at University, Libby spent many years as a research scientist working in ecological microbiology for Plant Protection, a Division of ICI. Throughout this time she found outlets for her art in her laboratory notebooks, illustrating findings with sketches and intricate drawings of plant parts etc.
After the arrival of her daughter, Libby became an independent Management Training Consultant and latterly a Project Manager for a Software company. Although not in the main focussed on art, at all times during her career drawing and painting has remained an important part of life. Libby did her 'A' Level Art in a year at a local College while working and while her daughter was young and during her various work, Libby has painted with local art groups, exhibited in local society Exhibitions and worked on a number of commissions. Most noteworthy are various works for clients of an Interior Designer with whom Libby worked for a number of years to produce works that suited clients' needs.
Successes in recent years include:
Selection of drawings and paintings for London Exhibitions with:
- Society of Women Artists, Mall Galleries
- Society of Graphic Fine Art, Menier Gallery (two exhibitions).
Award of trophies by two local Art Societies for abstract works in 2007:
- Ray Mills Trophy for most outstanding mixed media work (selected by Liz Seward Relfe) at Wokingham and District Art Club
- Ted Try Cup for best picture on the subject of 'Sizzling Heat' at Marlow Art and Crafts Society, painting since sold to a famous actor for his collection.
